Corporate Finance Institute Certification Framework

We offer specialized online financial training programs for your finance profession needs.

What is CFI Certification Framework?

We have defined what a financial analyst should master from completing our certification programs based on our established certification framework.

CFI has standardized modes of assessment and created a point of reference for developing workplace skills. This allows our students to develop a genuine understanding for real-world requirements. Students can be sure that what they’re learning is tailored for various roles within the industry.

By embracing global industry standards through our nonprofit organization, the Global Corporate Finance Society, we identify the expectations of a professional financial analyst and establish a benchmark for in-demand skills within the finance industry.

How does the Certification Framework work?

Corporate Finance Institute has created a system with a strong intellectual foundation, using 5 core components:
  • Market analysis
  • Course Design
  • Evaluation
  • Curriculum
  • Community

Identify the skills employers are looking for

We work closely with partners and consultants in the industry to understand the skills employers are looking for. Our process for identifying skills include:

  • Surveying employers
  • Feedback from our students
  • Hiring professional consultants
  • Requests from our corporate clients

Design courses that train the most critical skills

We apply adult learning theories, multimedia principles, and learning technology to create the following course design standards:

  • Practical: Our students are immersed in real-life scenarios so they can apply the skills they learn directly at work.
  • Engaging: We use different modalities and types of activities to engage our students. Our courses address different learning styles and preferences to increase knowledge retention.
  • Effective: We break down content into short videos and provide enough support to make complex concepts easy to understand.
  • Accessible: Our courses can be accessed anywhere, anytime. Students can take their own pace and manage their own learning. Students also have two years of access to all of their courses so they can keep elevating their skills and advancing their careers.

Use assignments and tests to ensure mastery

All of our courses have a heavy emphasis on assignments and exercises. We believe it’s critical to learn by doing, and not simply by memorizing information. Our assessment questions closely reflect the learning objectives and test different levels of learning including understanding, application, analysis, evaluation and creation.

Create a comprehensive curriculum that ties all courses together

In order to meet our course and program quality standards, we follow the following development process to create our curriculum:

  • Identify skill gaps and learning needs
  • Design curriculum outline and break the knowledge and skills into individual courses
  • Create presentations and learning activities for each course
  • Review the curriculum design and make sure all learning objectives are met
  • Develop videos, interactive exercises, templates, assessments, and other course materials
  • Monitor students’ behaviour, feedback, and assessment results to evaluate the learning delivery
  • Provide ongoing improvements based on the evaluation results

Create a global community of financial analysts

Upon successful completion of the initial requirements, certification holders are invited to join the Global Corporate Finance Society. This nonprofit exists to elevate the standard for financial analysts globally and connect professionals are the world. The Board of Directors, which includes 15 members – 12 of them independent – helps to oversee CFI’s certification programs. The Board provides insights about the skills employers are looking for . Including our graduated students in this process helps complete the framework process and moving back to step #1. At that point, the entire cycle repeats as courses, programs, assignments, and tests are updated.

Framework principles

The principles CFI follows to create certificates are recognized globally and form the pillars for many prestigious courses throughout the world. To help students meet their goals, CFI implements adult learning theories to ensure relevancy and emphasize practicality.

ADDIE is a highly regarded instructional systems design (ISD) used by training developers and instructional designers across every industry. CFI’s framework follows this platform closely and uses it as a reference point when performing routine checks to improve training standards.

To classify learning objectives for courses and develop a students intellectual abilities and skills, the CFI framework utilizes Bloom’s taxonomy of the cognitive domain. The cognitive domain is paired with multimedia design principles for elearning. By including multimedia principles in the CFI framework, the learning outcomes for students increases and allows instructors to deliver courses more effectively.
