Disparate Treatment is an intentional discriminatory treatment because of a protected characteristic such as age, gender, race, or disability. It is a form of illegal employment discrimination and can be punished by law. The practice goes against meritocracy, which rewards talents, efforts, and achievements that many competitive businesses claim to be present in their workplace.
