How does the stock simulator game work?

The Investopedia stock simulator is similar to other online trading simulation games that imitate the real-world equities markets. In this game, users start with $100,000 of play money to pick stocks to purchase that are available on the major American exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).

The stock game mimics reality as much as possible by charging commissions and broker fees to make trades, which can erode an investor’s return over time.  The stock simulator is also designed to be educational, and users will learn basic concepts of investing, including both technical analysis and fundamental analysis (PE ratio, DCF analysis, etc.).
